With
the number of new and exciting key that have it the market, the term
“normal
key” could mean a
lot of different things. Our locksmith over the years has
spoken to all different types of customs, simply wanting a normal key.
With
some investigation our locksmiths are able to identify they type of key
they
are referring to.
We have
listed some examples of keys below, all of which have been called
standard keys
at some stage. As a locksmith we except that not all keys are equal and
have a
deeper knowledge and understanding of the keys and the locks they suit.
If you
have locks that you would like to have your keys changed, our
locksmiths can
come to your place and change them for you, and set the locks to work
with a new
key.
If you would like your locks to
work on a different type of key, you will
most likely need to change your lock to suit the new type of key.
The
blow examples are all know as “Normal Keys” keys
Some of
the keys listed you may not of seen or been aware of. Our locksmiths
have also
given some examples of the type of locks and the different uses the
keys have. We have listed the keys to allow you name the key
that you are inquiring about or the key that you need to duplicate. The
information will also answer your question about duplication and if it
is possible.
Please

Brass Single Sided Key
Most people refer to this key as a normal
standard key, this key work a pin tumbler lock and can be cut with the
standard key cutting machine. This key is most commonly made from brass
with a chrome plating |

Security Keys - Do Not Copy
The look the same as other keys but with a unique shape to the key that
is also matched to the lock. Only the locksmith who sells the key can
cut the key, and you will need permission to have keys cut. This key
work with a pin tumbler system. |

Bilock Security key
This key can not be copied unless it is the locksmith who sold the key
system and you have permission to have the key cut. The unique shape of
the key has 2 blades, This type of lock dose use pins and springs but
has its own unique way of locking that is different to other pin locks |

Old keys - Mortice keys
You can still have these keys made, if you can find a key cutting shop
that has the old key machine, this type of key is still in use, but not
used as much as it was in the past years. You can buy this type of key
sometimes already made. If you key has numbers you can sometimes
reorder keys from the number, We sell this key in our lock shop.
If the key dose not have number you will most likely need the key to be
cut by hand at a key cutting shop. |

Padlock Or Security Key
This key has cuts on the side of the key that is different to some of
the other keys. To duplicate this key it requires a special machine.
Keys of this shape are commonly a security keys and you will need
permission to have then duplicated. The key in the image is a same
shape and this key that can be duplicated, if you can find a key cutter
with the machine |

Star key - Bolt key
This key has no groves on it, It has a long star shape blade that dose
all the work, You can order this key with out the need to have it cut,
One key fits all bolt locks. This bolt lock is a small bolt that is
commonly used on double doors |

Flat Steel Key
This old key has been in use for many years, the shape is flat and when
the key is cut the key has rectangle grooves taken out from the key.
This key was used on lockers and some vending machine as well as
cabinets, You still can have keys duplicated. You will need to find a
key cutting shop that can cut the key, Normal key cutting machine are
not normally capable of cutting this key |

Remote key
This key uses a frequency to open the lock, The lock itself dose look
normal, but the remote key is far from a normal key. This type of
remote key is increasing in popularity as you do not need to place it
inside the lock or have to be at the lock for it to work. Most locks
will need the remote to be programmed into the lock, You will need a
new remote and then have the lock except the new remote code. |

Touch Key
This key you simply touch to the reader to open the door, Used with an
access control system, this key has an electronic code that is
transmitted and check in the access computer system, If the code
matches the door will open. You need to program new touch keys into the
access control system, Duplicating this key is not possible at this
stage |

Car Keys
Car keys also have new technology that has changed over the years, to
make a duplicate key for some cars you will have to spend a lot of
money. Some car dealers have spare keys for your car that they send out
when you need them, This is often cheaper then making new keys. Some of
the new car keys use frequency and proximity sensors, so you don't need
to take your keys out of your pocket, Some have buttons you can
activate from a distance, Some have to placed on a slot to work that
then allows the lock to turn. This type of key is far from normal, and
you should ask your dealer if you need a duplicate key |

Proxi Card Key
By simply swiping the card near the reader you can open the door or
unlock the lock, You need to have a new card programmed into the system
and duplicating the cards is not possible. The size of this proxi key
has become smaller and smaller over the years, This card size is the
standard size |
