Foyer Door Locks - Entry Door Locks

When it comes to units and common entry doors / foyer doors, our locksmiths know all about them. With over 40 years combined experience in the industry, we have seen the type of locks that work and the type of locks that always give up after a short while. Foyer doors are always heavily used, most foyer doors are the main entry point for units or villas or town houses, and, most people have 2 or more residents in their living quarters, which means if you have 80 units and there are 2 people in each and most people use the door about 4 times a day,  365 times a year, would mean that individual lock would get used a minimum of 233,600 times a year. That door is the frontline to the security of each unit, you cannot  compromise by using generic or cheap  security solutions.

These locks are quite common to wear out after 1-2 years in high traffic areas. The selection of locking devices should be nothing less than heavy duty. If the lock stops working in this example, there will be a potential of 160 unhappy  people, most armed with a mobile phone. The result is a large number of calls and complaints to the caretaker - strata - real estates - owners and so on. With the end result being a security door being propped open and not used to its absolute security capacity.

All this can be avoided by having a good quality lock installed the first time. By adding extra strength devices such as blocking plate to prevent people and burglars from attacking the lock, this will increase the life of the lock and maximize the security. Ask our security experts on more security solutions to suit your security needs.

Security keys are also integral on unit and foyer doors. This allows the caretaker or strata to issue keys and know the total amount issued to each unit. This prevents large numbers of people living in units that are not part of the lease. It also increases the security of the lock, and most importantly, gives the key holder the peace of mind that this key cannot be duplicated by any one except the authorizer.

Self closing foyer doors are also a good decision, Entry doors are always abused and treated forcefully, with many tenants not closing  them properly or leave the main door ajar, this creates a security risk for not only themselves, but also the other residents. By having a Door Closer installed this will no longer be a problem, as the door will automatically close behind the person, usually within 10 seconds.

Most units use intercoms to allow their visitors access. This is a very efficient way of monitoring visitors access, the resident knows who they are letting into the building, and there fore, entry accessibility is discriminated by whom the tenants actually allow in the premises, for an example, at 2am, people generally will not allow you access into their building without a purpose, so on and so forth, also a good way to deter would be canvassers and con artists. The intercom system works in conjunction with the lock and the lock release device which the intercom activates. Dr lock have installed the lock and the lock release including the intercom. We have seen lot of foyers that have had such a system installed, and have used inferior parts which soon failed, leaving the intercom system unable to allow access. This is a huge inconvenience to all residents to have to go to the main foyer door and open it manually. A good working security foyer door will improve the conditions for the residents and increase the value of the premises. The cost for such a security system and security devices should be looked  at over a few years, When you divide the cost over the life of the products and then divide the cost between the owners corporation, You will find the cost to be quite low, and well worth the cost per unit. Some heavy duty products out live their recommended life span, Its not uncommon for some locks to go for extra 5 - 10 years "if treated nicely"

Don't let the price make your decisions about your building and personal security - Choose quality and reliability. Well known brands are always recommended. Common property and foyer doors should use heavy commercial grade hardware, residential grade will not last, and is not worth saving money installing it, you are only saving money short term as in the long run you will need to continuously replace this lock, eventually costing more than if you initially pay a little bit extra for commercial grade locks.

There are many different ways to improve your security and design locking systems that suit the location and requirements. Please contact one of our locksmiths for more valuable information on security measures.
