Installation of Restricted Security Keys
Changing from standard keys to restricted “Do Not Copy” keys is a simple process we do to make your locks compatible with security keys.
If you have reasonable quality locks installed, the installation process is quicker and does not requires a change of lock hardware.
If you have locks that are low quality or are non-compatible, the only option is to upgrade the locks or cylinders to accommodate the new security key.
We have a large range of cylinders that suit the majority of Australian locks.
The process is quite simple, the locks are removed from the door, in some cases only the lock cylinder is removed.
Once the cylinder is removed our locksmiths then install lock parts into the lock cylinder that can accommodate the security key and assemble the lock cylinder to the new security key.
This is now the time that the master keying is done. Master keying is a term that is giving to locks that use different keys.
If you would like to have keys that work only some doors and not others, Master keying can achieve this.
Ask our locksmiths about master keying and how it can work for your business!
Once we have rebuilt your lock cylinders and installed compatible locks, our locksmiths then re install all the lock part to the door.
- You can estimate about 15 minutes per lock for the lock conversion.
- The end result is you lock will now operate with a security key.
- The reasons you should use security keys are…
- Higher in security
- No duplicate keys can get made without your permission
- The lock becomes harder to manipulate
- You have control of your keys
- All keys are numbered
- You can take advantage of a master-key system
Keys in any business are a very important part of the business security, it’s important to know that your employees cannot keys cut.
If you issue a key to a casual employee and it’s not restricted, there is nothing stopping that employee from having a $3 key cut and returning to the shop or business another time. We place a lot of trust in employee of any business or office.
By having security keys installed you remove the risk of keys being duplicated, If you were to receive a key back, you can rest assured that there has been no further keys duplicated and no security breach.
Most employees do not know the difference between the two types of keys, It is standard practice that any business that issues keys to staff issue restricted keys.
Restricted keys can save you time and money when it comes time to recovering keys from former staff members, If you have to recode all your locks the bill will be considerably larger.
If you receive the same key back from a staff member that has left or is leaving, you can rest assured that is the only key in their procession.
Restricted security keys are just another form of business insurance / security by using security keys you increase the security of your business and can save money in the long run.
